About the Role
About Hay Point Hay Point Coal Terminal is one of the largest coal export ports in the world and is located about 40 kilometres south of Mackay. It services the mines owned by BHP Mitsubishi Alliance in the Bowen Basin in Central Queensland. The mines are linked to the port through an integrated rail-port network. The port is a highly efficient and sophisticated operation involving rail in-loading facilities, onshore stockpile yards, stacker reclaimers, surge bins, offshore structures and shiploaders. About the Role Reporting to the Projects Superintendent in the Engineering Department, you will draw on your proficient leadership and technical capabilities to plan, manage and execute assigned projects at site. As part of a highly collaborative team, you will work with all internal and external stakeholders and engineering contractors to achieve the right outcome for the business. This role allows for professional development and the opportunity to step-up as part of succession planning. This role is based at our Hay Point site on a residential basis working Monday - Friday. In this role you will:

- Project manage the planning, engineering front end loading, safe execution and commissioning of approved capital projects (supporting the 2 year budget) and deliver work on scope, schedule, cost and safety targets.
- Prepare and present project business cases for approval and support management of the capital portfolio through tracking project health and performance using BMA’s portfolio management tools.
- Undertake the co-ordination of design, specification, costing, scoping, and evaluation report works that are required for the delivery of plant/equipment modifications and projects.
- Engage the operation across all departments, including key stakeholders, suppliers, vendors and contractors.
- Actively investigate and implement safety, productivity, and cost initiatives across site.
- Provide engineering support for construction and commissioning activities for projects and manage relevant risks.
About You
About You As a degree qualified Mechanical or Structural Engineer, your project management skills will be proficient, as will your ability to influence and build relationship with a range of stakeholders. You will possess a “step-up”, “can do” attitude and the willingness to take on responsibilities and deliver on stretch targets for Hay Point. Additionally, the following personal qualities are essential:
- Strong people management skills, with demonstrated experience leading workgroups and contractors.
- Experience in project development and front end loading.
- Developed analytical and problem solving skills, and proven ability to communicate plans clearly and concisely.
- Previous project management experience.
- Strong communication, people and leadership skills.
- Sound technical competency in engineering (mechanical or structural).
- Conscientious and results driven.
- Resilient, with the ability to work under pressure and effectively manage priorities.
- Flexible and adaptable.
Previous site-based experience working with bulk materials handling equipment i.e. rail unloading, conveying, stacking / reclaiming (balanced machines) and shiploaders would be highly desirable.
