About the role

Rio Tinto’s Asset Management Supply Chain Services Division is looking for a Track Engineer to provide track engineering expertise to the broader Rio Tinto Iron Ore Railway. The role within this critical area of the business, is to provide technical advice and support relating to rail assets throughout their full lifecycle to ensure they are safe, predictable and reliable.

Reporting to the Superintendent of Engineering, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing track subject matter expert support to Rail Maintenance, Rail Renewals, Rail Operations and project delivery teams.
  • The delivery of technical work as part of a team of engineers to meet long term asset management strategies, objectives and plans.
  • Contributing to the development of standards, procedures and asset management plans.
  • Structured auditing on track and civil assets and activities against engineering standards and procedures across the asset life cycle.
  • Monitoring and reviewing the health and performance of track assets, including risk profiles.
  • Contributing to the review of track designs.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering
  • Eligible for Engineers Australia Chartered Engineer Status
  • Current C Class Drivers Licence
  • Experience in a rail environment

Additional skills/experience that will be considered favourable but not essential:

  • Expertise in application of track engineering principles
  • An ability to convert technical knowledge into practical instruction
  • Working knowledge of asset management principles
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Understanding of project management principles
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in root cause and problem-solving techniques
  • Exposure to a similar role in the rail industry
  • Ability to work in a team and safety conscious environment

Where you will be working

Our privately owned and operated rail network is an essential part of our integrated production process and services our 16 mines across the Pilbara via almost 2,000 km of track. With rail depots located at Tom Price, Cape Lambert and Dampier (7 Mile), most trains are autonomously operated and typically comprise three locomotives and 240 ore cars stretching to approximately 2.4 kilometres in length. We are also applying and adapting technology to improve safety and productivity across our rail network.

This role is based in Perth CBD in the Central Park Building with flexible working arrangements available. Irregular site travel to the Pilbara is required depending on project and task demands.
