About the role

We are looking for an Engineer Reliability – Civil to be part of the RTIO Rail Network Asset Assurance Team at Dampier. You will improve asset reliability and cost through reliability analysis and the delivery of reliability improvement projects on civil infrastructure assets across 1700km of RTIO rail network. Civil assets include, but are not limited to, bridges, culverts, cuttings, embankments and access roads.

This role is a great opportunity for an expert in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Maintenance Tactics for Rail Civil Infrastructure to join our diverse and technical team of experts. Reporting to the Specialist Reliability Engineer, you will be:

  • Responsible for the Civil Defects Elimination process - Identify & prioritise defects, facilitate / participate in root cause analysis and manage the critical defect elimination project portfolio for civil assets.
  • Improve site Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and Mean Time To Recovery (MTTR) by using rail system reliability modelling and the RCA process.
  • Conduct reliability analysis and modelling to interpret failures or unscheduled loss/cost data and make valuable recommendations to improve our business and asset management strategy. This requires investigating faults recorded in SAP notification/workorders and other sources of site data such as CAMBIO.
  • Work closely with Rail Engineering, the Civil and Earthworks Superintendent, supervisors, inspectors and planners to obtain the necessary support to implement and drive a defect elimination culture at all levels.
  • Support the RTIO Rail Network Maintenance Asset Assurance Civil team with asset management and work management skills.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Bachelor of Engineering – Civil / Structural / Geotech
  • Understanding of rail safe operating procedures
  • Relevant engineering experience in heavy haul rail environment, working with railway Civil & Track standards, application of railway Civil and Track engineering concepts, reliability practices
  • Strong facilitation, stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • RCA and problem-solving techniques
  • Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and maintenance strategy development skills
  • Failure-Mode-Effect-Criticality-Analysis (FMECA) facilitation skills
  • Understanding of project management principles, Whole Of Life (WOL) asset management and business case development
  • Understanding of Asset Management (AM) systems and structures
  • Understanding of data analytics tools such as Power BI, Excel, SAP and APM
  • C Class Manual Driving Licence

Where you will be working

This role will be based at our 7 Mile operation out of Dampier, a short drive from the heart of Karratha. Karratha is a coastal town, situated in WA’s Pilbara region, which boasts a strong ‘community’ feel.

We operate 200 locomotives on more than 1,700 kilometres of track in the Pilbara, transporting ore from 16 mines to four port terminals. The average return distance of these trains is about 800 kilometres with the average journey cycle, including loading and dumping, taking approximately 40 hours.

Our network is the largest privately owned and operated heavy haul rail system in Australia, and as we focus on the future, our vision is to become the greatest heavy haul railway in the world.
