About the role

The Engineering Manager role is crucial in steering the engineering aspects of the project, focusing on the integration and management of engineering processes and teams, while supporting the asset integrity and overall program deliverables. This position involves overseeing a diverse range of engineering disciplines, including environmental, civil, electrical, and process engineering. The Engineering Manager is responsible for ensuring that all engineering work is executed to the highest standards, aligning with project objectives, safety regulations, and environmental considerations.

A key aspect of this role is to manage and coordinate the engineering team, ensuring cohesion and that each member contributes effectively to the project's goals. This involves technical leadership and people management, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.

The role requires a deep understanding of engineering principles and practices, as well as the ability to apply this knowledge practically in a project setting. The Engineering Manager is tasked with overseeing the development and implementation of engineering plans and procedures, ensuring they are up-to-date and relevant to the project's needs. They play a pivotal role in supporting various project phases, from feasibility studies to execution, including critical activities like camp expansions and shutdown processes.

Additionally, the Engineering Manager must effectively manage contracts and liaise with external service providers, ensuring that all engineering services are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. Success in this role is marked by the timely and efficient delivery of engineering outputs, the reliability and stability of engineering solutions, and the overall performance and morale of the engineering team.

Reporting directly to the Program Director, you will be responsible for:

3 - 6 Month Key Deliverables

• Feet under the desk, and understand business, project position, processes, key team members, stakeholders, and their respective roles and strategic goals.
• Established relationships with key stakeholders and team.
• Reviewed and updated the engineering management plan and the procedures to align them with their way of doing work. This involved an understanding of the existing plan and making necessary adjustments to fit their management style and the project's needs.
• Review Engineering Service Providers (ESPs)
• Support execution delivery on camp expansion and pit 3 works.
• Support brine concentrator refurbishment shut down.

12 Month Key Deliverables

• Successfully implemented the engineering and maintenance plans, improved operational reliability and asset performance.
• Supported the delivery streams with the delivery of the works, coordinated with different teams and ensured the timely completion of project tasks.
• Management plan in place and implemented.
• Timely close out of EQ’s.
• Team is stable, high performing, and engaged, with clear development plans in place.
• Delivered engineering packages to schedule and scope, driving practicals
• Worked with the Utilities team and reviewed the operations and improved reliability.

What you’ll bring

• Degree qualified in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science or equivalent. Project management qualifications are preferred, but not mandatory.
• Experienced Engineering Manager with strong leadership and communication skills.
• Exposure to ecosystem activities such as soils, sediments etc.
• Proven ability to manage an ESP to get outcomes delivered by a contractor.
• Background in both projects and operations, possibly from an engineering service provider like WSP, Worley, Hatch, or AECOM.
• Experience in studies is valued.
• Experience managing a diverse team, with a focus on contract management and engineering package delivery.
• Eliminated unnecessary costs or "gold-plated designs", and focused on practical outcomes that can be constructed.

Where you’ll be working

Energy Resources of Australia Ltd (ERA) is a publicly listed company with Rio Tinto its major shareholder. ERA has mined and produced uranium oxide from its Ranger mine in the beautiful and rugged Alligator Rivers area of the Northern Territory since 1980. The Ranger mine is located on Aboriginal land, and is surrounded by, but separate from Kakadu National Park.

Mining at Ranger ceased in November 2012 and since then, Ranger has been processing ore from stockpiles.

The role is either Darwin based on a Bus in Bus out arrangement between Ranger Mine and Darwin. Fly In; Fly Out from major capital cities, will also be considered.
