Engineering Manager
Work Location: Brisbane
Roster: Monday to Friday
FFI is working on a green hydrogen and ammonia opportunity in Brisbane. We are working with others on the conversion of an existing gas based ammonia production facility at Gibson Island in Brisbane, focusing on construction of an industrial scale hydrogen production facility
Reporting to the Project Director, the Engineering Manager leads the delivery of all technical engineering, managing a multi-disciplinary engineering team to effectively support project development, ensuring the work undertaken by the engineering contractor/s meets the project expectations on safety, quality, technical compliance, cost, and schedule.
The Engineering Manager will be responsible for effective communication and exchange of information across a number of stakeholder groups to ensure the technical aspects of the project are delivered in a timely manner in preparation for phase gates, FID, construction and commissioning
Key accountabilities will include:
- Lead the engineering management of the project through feasibility, detailed design, execution, commissioning, and start-up phases.
- Direct-line management of Lead Engineers, keeping the team informed on project progress and issues and chairing engineering meetings to inform, coordinate and manage engineering input.
- Coordinate with the Delivery Manager, and package managers for the management of engineering contractor/s to ensure delivery of technical work meets the project objectives, technical and quality requirements, while aligning with project budget and schedule.
- Manage technical clarifications, TQs and scope changes between the engineering contractor/s and FFI engineering.
- Coordinate, monitor and report on engineering input to the wider project stakeholders, including the Project Director.
- Interface management between the FFI engineering team and other project stakeholders.
- Develop innovative solutions for cost-effective and efficient project delivery.
- Act as the focal point for new technology and its implementation, exhibiting an awareness of new technologies and proactively participating in opportunities to develop your knowledge in this area.
- Ensure technology selection and general project technical assurance is completed and documented.
- Contribute to the identification of risks and opportunities on the project, participate in required workshops and proactively lead the treatment of risks and opportunities with the Engineering team
- Support resourcing and recruiting activities to ensure project delivery.
- Produce regular project progress reports for internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to building a frugal cost-conscious attitude throughout the project team.
Qualifications and skills required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent study
- Chartered Professional Engineer, or similar professional certification highly desirable
- Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) registration highly desirable
- Post-graduate qualifications in Project Management highly desirable
- Experience in engineering or project management of major capital projects, from feasibility studies through to start-up.
- Experience in energy and / or process infrastructure – hydrogen or ammonia highly desirable.
- Experience in engagement with OEMs, licensors and vendors for hydrogen and ammonia synthesis highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of project development frameworks and experience guiding projects successfully through assurance gates.
- Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team, with proven leadership skills which include planning, developing, managing, troubleshooting and motivating diverse teams to achieve project objectives and deliver on quality, budget and schedule.
- Experience in engaging and managing external consultants and contractors.
- Proven negotiation skills to ensure all stakeholders support the path forward.
- Ability to quickly understand issues and develop resolution strategies.
- Strong planning and organisational skills, including ability to manage several work streams simultaneously.
- Demonstrated knowledge of interface management plans, processes, tools and execution.
