About the role:  We are currently seeking an Environmental Superintendent for Coppabella Moorvale Joint Venture. Our Coppabella Moorvale mine complex consists of three open-cut mine operations located approximately 140 kilometres southwest of Mackay that produce premium low-volatile pulverised coal (LV-PCI) for export markets.

Reporting to the Business Services & Technical Support Manager, you will be accountable for developing, implementing and maintaining the Environmental Management System for CMJV, ensure the mine site is compliant with current environmental legislation and determine and oversee rehabilitation operations across the site, including rehabilitation liabilities, site water and waste management systems. Your duties will also include:

  • Directing the activities of contractors and consultants;
  • Reviewing and modifying the sites environmental management system.
  • Preparing and submitting documentation and reports as required to regulatory authorities including in relation to non-compliance matters;
  • Monitoring and reporting on the sites environmental activities and performance,
  • Managing budgets, studies, trials and plans for the closure and relinquishment of various pits.
  • Drive accountability and completion of CMJV business plan with regards to Environmental Values.
  • Acting as lead community liaison

About you:

  • A tertiary degree in Environmental Science  
  • Experience with managing legislative environmental compliance
  • Prior experience with mine closure planning and / or implementation; including operations and stakeholder engagement;
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role preferably within the QLD coal mining industry including a minimum of 2 years site based experience;
  • A high degree of computer literacy and report writing capability
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; and,
  • A passion for safety as a way of life.
