Expressions of Interest – Process Safety Professionals (all levels)
Work Location: Perth, with regular travel to Fortescue’s Pilbara operations. Relocation from other Australian or International locations may be considered.
Roster: Monday to Friday
With Safety as one of our core Values, Fortescue is seeking a number of Process Safety professionals, or Safety professionals with exposure to major hazard facilities, to develop and implement Fortescue health, safety and process safety systems for the new energies that are being introduced to decarbonise the Fortescue mining fleet.
Current vacancies include (but not limited to):
- Process Safety Manager
- Technical Safety Superintendent, Decarbonisation
- Process Safety Risk Specialist (Perth or Port Hedland)
Responsibilities may include (depending on the role):
- Introducing or implementing new energy hazards and controls to operations and maintenance teams on the Fortescue mining operation, utilising a risk-based approach
- Providing technical safety engineering guidance and support to the business in alignment with local regulatory and mine site requirements
- Establishing and/or implementing processes and procedures for process safety suitable for the new energies
- Inputting into required regulatory deliverables such as dangerous goods licences and regulatory design compliance requirements
- Facilitating health, safety and process safety awareness and management decision making
- Engaging with internal and external stakeholders in regard to setting industry standards and providing independent technical support
- Ensuring timely reporting of incidents and hazards, plus lead or facilitate investigations where related to process safety events
- Ensuring Fortescue health, safety and process safety standards are adhered to
- Ensuring safe delivery of equipment and projects in a mining environment
Qualifications and experience required:
- Tertiary qualified in engineering and/or health and safety
- Must have process safety experience in a major hazard facility or working in/with dangerous goods, chemical processing or a related high-risk industry. Experience with ammonia or hydrogen will be advantageous, but not compulsory
- Knowledge of Australian codes and standards as well as the applicable statutory requirements
- Experience in developing, implementing and/or maintaining process safety management systems
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence decisions and behaviours to deliver safe outcomes
- Strong time management, prioritisation and problem solving skills with the ability to make practical decisions in a high stress environment
- Previous experience managing teams either in an engineering setting or a health and safety team (Manager/Superintendent roles only)
