Project Engineer - Belinga

Work Location: Based in Perth but with infrequent trips to Gabon for up to 2-3weeks during initial project phases and ramping up from there - Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

Roster: (5:2) - Monday to Friday when in Perth (potential site travel) 

An exciting opportunity exists for a highly motivated individual to join the Belinga Project team as the Perth based Project Engineer.

The Belinga Project is located in the Republic of Gabon, West Africa, and is potentially one of the world’s largest undeveloped, high-grade hematite deposits. Ivindo Iron, the Joint Venture between Fortescue Metals Group and the Africa Transformation and Industrialization Fund (ATIF), will evaluate and look to develop the Belinga Project.

This role will be an integral part of the Belinga Project team and focus on the design and development of the onsite infrastructure; i.e. the Ore Processing Facility, HME workshop, Village, etc. This role will provide an opportunity to develop a broad skillset whilst obtaining exposure to a wide range of other disciplines as part of the wider Studies team.

The role will require infrequent travel to Gabon during the initial phases of the project to liaise between the Studies team and Gabonese parties, or generally to develop understanding of the project to progress the study.

Role responsibilities:

Responsibilities will be split between study management and mining engineering, including:

  • Liaise with departments within the company to develop the infrastructure designs for the site.
  • Engage internal and external resources to complete concept level designs.
  • Develop internal execution strategies and budget estimates.
  • Engage vendors and construction contractors do develop construction schedules and budgets.
  • Integrate construction schedules and budgets for project areas into the overall master schedule and budget.
  • Actively identify project risks and opportunities and mitigate where possible
  • Prepare reports including project execution plans and study reports detailing proposed designs, reasoning behind them, alternatives considered, etc., etc.
  • Prepare and give summary presentations to stakeholders.

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Formal qualification in Engineering or Construction Management
  • Experience working on a mine site in either an operational or construction capacity.
  • Experience working within a Project environment.
  • A practical approach to engineering and design problems
  • Experience working on the Study phase of a project desired but not necessary
  • Ability to speak French speaking highly regarded
  • West African experience advantageous
  • High level of computer proficiency with Excel, Word, MS Project necessary.
