About the role

We are looking for an Estimator to manage and provide estimating services to asset development and project teams as well as, estimate costs for the Ranger Rehabilitation Project and any other ERA business segment if required.

You will have ability to initiate change in the Cost Control area in consultation with the Project Controls Lead / Project Controls Manager and budget owners. The Estimator reports to the ERA Manager Project Controls and will directly support this position with leading the estimating function.

You will be responsible for:

  • Developing and maturing estimates to support concept scope, studies, execution, owners’ costs, operations and maintenance and adhoc support to forecasting, new scope estimating, confirmation of external estimates used within ERA.
  • Control and document all estimating versions and final issue. Support the establishment of control budgets with the Project cost function and Project phasing aligned with plans and approved schedules. Maintain and collate a secure and usable estimating tool to support study, project and adhoc requirements.
  • Develop cost estimates in accordance with ERA Project controls processes, standards and guidelines and aligned to Rio Tinto guidelines (PMplus).
  • Lead or participate in, as appropriate, reviews of third-party or sub-contractor estimates.
  • Lead or participate in, as appropriate, cost and schedule risk analyses, using probabilistic techniques.
  • Lead or participate in as appropriate, the development/support of a project risk register to provide for identification, mitigation and monitoring of project risks.
  • Where appropriate participate in the development and review of key engineering deliverables to ensure appropriateness as input for estimates.
  • Review tender submissions and BID evaluations.
  • Support the Project cost and schedule functions with estimating norms/actuals for project trends and change management.
  • Support supply chain with estimating budget and commitment tracking, including review and assistance with budget and pricing schedules for contracts/materials.
  • Support data (forecast) to ERA finance for funding requests/updates.
  • Maintain the correct WBS/SAP coding within estimates
  • Allocate work package and estimates supporting budgets, consult with project team.
  • Coordinate with finance to gather actual costs for basis of estimate buildup.
  • Support risk, escalation and contingency allowances held within estimates.
  • Consult with budget managers and package owners in relation to estimate confirmation and acceptance.
  • Consult with and provide Management and with visibility of estimates and supporting basis for approval.
  • Report and control estimating timelines to algin with ERA scope updates

What you will bring

  • Have experience establishing and maintaining estimating software and expert excel skills.
  • Able to develop estimates for various project and study scopes.
  • Able to effectively communicate at all levels of project team from construction contractor, package owners, budget managers and Executive Committee (EXCO).
  • Familiar with developing a WBS and activity coding as the basis for estimate development.
  • Able to estimate activities and duration phasing in consult with the project team.
  • Able to demonstrate experience in delivery of estimate baselines and updates.
  • Able to identify and reflect changes in estimate due to scope change or schedule updates.
  • Experience in reviewing scope changes and trends.
  • Be able to evaluate alternative project options to identify optimum project strategies or resolve problems prior to and during execution.
  • Experience in documenting all supporting estimate build up for review at approval and for reference to support budget and package establishment.
  • Be able to report progress, trends, variations, and efficiency.
  • The person shall understand and demonstrate the ability to work in a team and understand the need to provide a professional and prompt service to all stakeholders

Where you’ll be working

Energy Resources of Australia Ltd (ERA) is a publicly listed company with Rio Tinto its major shareholder. ERA has mined and produced uranium oxide from its Ranger mine in the beautiful and rugged Alligator Rivers area of the Northern Territory since 1980. The Ranger mine is located on Aboriginal land, and is surrounded by, but separate from Kakadu National Park.

Mining at Ranger ceased in November 2012 and since then, Ranger has been processing ore from stockpiles.

The role is based in Brisbane, with occasional travel required to site in Jabiru, NT.
