We are currently looking for an Evaluation Metallurgist to join our Processing Studies team within Rio Tinto Iron Ore. The role is technically focussed, applying best practice of wet and dry processing knowledge into studies from conceptual through to feasibility stages.
This is a Perth-based role working Monday-Friday with occasional site travel.
We are a high-performing, engaged team of technical specialists working within a structure that supports collaborative problem solving with the operating business. Our RTIO Process Engineering Division is dedicated to providing technical support to improve performance of our current and future operations, including our green steel pathway. Opportunities exist for technically focused process engineers with career pathways to senior levels.
Reporting to the Senior Metallurgist you will be:
- Managing metallurgical test work programs including drill core processing, data analysis and interpretation of test work results
- Supporting flowsheet development and process modelling
- Engaging stakeholders to provide technical process guidance and support across the value chain
- Identifying and implementing process improvement initiatives to support current and future strategy and driving best practice and cross site processing replication opportunities
- Providing subject matter expertise for processing unit operations across our existing and future dry, wet and concentrator processing plants
- Ensuring all relevant metallurgical aspects and risks are considered and controlled when providing input to resource development study phases
- Analysing unit operation and plant performance to understand processing potential across our operations

What you’ll bring
- Background in process engineering or related technical discipline
- Ability to work across discipline and geographic boundaries, connecting people to collaboratively solve problems
- Experience in teams that have delivered improvements in safety and operating performance, and continuous improvement objectives
- Relevant tertiary qualifications (Process Engineering, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or equivalent)
- An analytical approach with strong problem solving, data analysis, report writing and presentations skills
- Excellent communication and influencing skills
- Experience with process flowsheet modelling and programming would be beneficial
