Excavator Operators

Work Location: Various Sites across the Pilbara

Roster: 2/2 or 2/1 FIFO Perth or Busselton

As a skilled Mining Operator, you will be responsible for operating mobile equipment at maximum efficiency, while maintaining safety, environmental and heritage standards to achieve required operational targets for the business.

Applicants for Excavator positions will also be considered for Dozer/Grader/Loader roles if thier experience is suitable for these positions.

Key accountabilities will include:

  1. Safety
    • Operate heavy mining equipment safely, following hierarchy rules in the pit
    • Carry out pre-start inspections in line with FMG processes to ensure machinery is safe for operation and report all safety issues
    • Report hazards discovered in the field to prevent injury and incidents
    • Work as a part of an operational team with a focus on zero harm and safe tonnes
    • Participate in risk reduction activities
  2. Production
    • Follow instructions from Mine Control and the MineStar fleet management system to contribute to daily targets
    • Follow machine allocations and instructions from the Mining Supervisors
    • Constantly strive to improve process efficiency and productivity
    • Dig to plan using, terrain and in-cab dig plan printouts
  3. People
    • Participate in Fortescue performance review process and agreed personal development plans
    • Being a team player and supporting each other for safe production and personal development
    • Display Fortescue Values and compliance with Fortescue Code of Conduct behaviours

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Substantial experience operating a CAT 6060 shovel, CAT 6040, Hitachi 3600, CAT 6030, Leibherr 996 or 9400 or other excavators in the 400 to 600 tonne class
  • Ability to operate Dozers D9 to D11 and graders 16M to 24M or other machines when required
  • Ability to follow dig plans and mining block out information
  • Ability to use Minestar or similar fleet management system
  • Communication and interpersonal skills - two-way operation
