Exploration and Tenement Cost Analyst

Work Location: Perth - Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people.

Roster: Monday to Friday

This role is a unique opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join Fortescue Metals Group's dynamic Acquisitions and Tenements team which manages Fortescue’s large tenement portfolio in Australia and internationally. A key focus of this role is to participate in the maintenance and analysis of systems to ensure the accurate and timely allocation of expenditure to Fortescue's tenements. The Exploration & Tenement Cost Analyst will show a high degree of initiative and resourcefulness and can manage multiple tasks, maintain flexibility, and adapt to changing business conditions. They will have experience in educating as well as compiling and presenting analytical results and recommendations to a variety of stakeholders with the objective of improving business performance. This role is integral to managing Fortescue’s licence to explore and operate, ensuring compliance to legislator requirements.                                                                             

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with tenement expenditure obligations by conducting periodic analysis and review of expenditure and identification of discrepancies with expenditure data
  • Participating in expenditure allocation activities which will involve preparing tenement expenditure status reports and allocation monitoring reports
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and define improvements to tenement expenditure allocation initiatives and systems and conducting analytics to support the identification of solutions to optimise business performance
  • Conducting tenement expenditure allocation training sessions and presentations
  • Periodic processing, monitoring, and verifying the integrity of tenement expenditure as it relates to Fortescue’s joint venture and other commercial activities
  • Provide support to the Acquisitions & Tenements team on tenement expenditure related analysis and tasks and advising on best practice expenditure allocation
  • Compilation and review of operating documents and reference guides to ensure accurate processing of data and business continuity

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Bachelor of Commerce or equivalent Finance-related qualification
  • Minimum 2 years industry accounting experience in a medium to large-sized organisation
  • Proficient with SAP or similar ERP software
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy in data entry and reporting
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and take direction from senior personnel
  • Be driven and have the ability to quickly acquire tenement-specific technical knowledge as required to scope and solve operational problems
  • Proven ability to think analytically with an ability to interpret and critically evaluate information
  • Enthusiastic about learning and developing new skills in the field of analysis and tenement-related mining legislation

Desirable qualifications and skills:

  • Experience with Tenement and Exploration compliance highly desirable
  • Experience within the Resources Industry desirable
  • Expertise in working with and developing databases
  • Experience working with and manipulating large volumes of data
  • Experience with process analysis and design
