Exploration Geochemists – All Levels

Work Location: Perth (With field work, as required) - Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

Roster: Monday to Friday (and 14D/7R)

Fortescue is moving at speed to transition into a Global green metals, minerals, energy and technology company. The Exploration Team are seeking passionate exploration geochemists, to help with this transition. Fortescue has a significant global exploration portfolio of copper, lithium and other critical minerals and is aggressively exploring.

Reporting to the Superintendent Geology the role will support our project teams exploring diverse mineralising systems through world class metallogenic terranes.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Implementation of the AMD monitoring program for all FMG operational mine sites, including:
    • Collection of waste rock, ground water, surface water, and tailings samples
  • Quality control of sampling and laboratory analysis
  • Interpretation of results
  • Quarterly and annual AMD reports for all sites
  • Updating the AMD sampling plan as required
  • Reporting to the DMP and EPA as necessary to clarify findings
  • Ad-hoc specialist Geochemistry reports to support operations

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Degree level qualification in Geochemistry or similar
  • Proficiency in a wide range of geochemical software, as well as GIS and 3D visualisation platforms
  • Strong understanding of proximal to far-field alteration and geochemical footprints of different mineralising systems utilising major, trace element and mineral geochemistry
  • Report writing and lab quality supervision experience
  • Ability to integrate geochemical data with multi-disciplinary geological and geophysical datasets
  • Field experience and willingness to work for extended periods of time in remote environments
