The Role

The Exploration Geologist will work closely with Jaguar Senior Geologist to implement and execute Jaguar's exploration strategy. The Exploration Geologist will be responsible for assisting with planning, developing and conducting exploration and resources development activities including but not limited to drilling, mapping and targets generation in a safe, effective and efficient manner.

This role reports to the Senior Geologist and form part of a tight-knit and high-performing Geology team where you will ensure exploration and development of the resource exceeds efficiency, profitability and safety. This role is permanent, on an 8:6 dayshift roster, FIFO Perth.

Duties and responsibilities:  

  • Supervision of AC,RC and DD rigs including planning and supervising drilling programs, data capture and entry, QAQC and data validation
  • Logging material and Interpreting log data
  • Design, coordination and implementation of mapping, surface sampling, and drill programs
  • Scrutinised  laboratory data for sample error and ensuring results are within acceptable limits
  • Produce geological plans, cross sections , long section with geological Interpretation
  • Assist with 3D geological modelling
  • Undertake geological assessment of new areas and tie in with all historical data to generate targets
  • Assist with preparation of reports and ASX releases

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher  in Geology
  • Minimum two years’ experience in exploration role, preferably in VMS and/or gold.
  • Experience with standard geological database management (AcQuire skills desirable), data interpretation and reporting skills.
  • Basic skills in 3D (leapfrog),GIS (MapInfo) and high literacy in Microsoft Suite, as well as some knowledge of ioGas.
  • Experience in regional and near mine exploration supervising drilling programs and contractors
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to details
  • An inquisitive mind with attitude and desire to succeed
  • Ability to work safely and effectively, autonomously and as a part of a small and close knit dynamic team
  • A genuine enthusiasm for geology and discovery
  • First Aid Certificate (current), senior first aid preferred, and 4WD experience

The Operation

Jaguar Operations employs more than 250 people and is located 60km north of Leonora and 250km north of Kalgoorlie. Our workforce is predominantly a FIFO workforce from Perth to our camp facilities 10 minutes from site with fully equipped gym, swimming pool, organised recreational and social activities as well as Foxtel and Wi-Fi in camp for use.

Jaguar Operations is an established underground zinc, copper, and silver mine located 65 km north of Leonora in the Eastern Goldfields region of Western Australia. It is a high-quality asset in an established mining jurisdiction that produces two separate concentrate streams: a copper concentrate and a zinc concentrate. The operation includes a 600ktpa processing plant, as well as surface and underground infrastructure, and has been in production for more than 10 years.

The Bentley mine is the current focus of operations. Jaguar Operations has a current mine life of four years, although recent successful exploration campaigns are expected to lead to significant mine life extensions.
