About the opportunityYou will be paid while you train at FutureFit Academy and become a qualified tradesperson at BHP. These are permanent opportunities, and once successfully completing your studies, you will continue your employment with BHP based at one of our mine sites.

The Perth academy is currently offering Apprenticeships in Fabrication to commence in March 2026.

As a Fabrication Apprentice, you will learn in the classroom and practise your skills in a workshop. You will learn how to read technical drawings, measure and mark metal, cut and shape metal, and join metal parts to make or repair equipment and structures. You will learn to use tools and equipment such as welders, grinders, drills and oxy-acetylene torches. This is practical, hands-on work. At times, the workshop may be hot, noisy and physically demanding. The work can involve heat, sparks, bright welding light, hot metal and welding fumes. You will need to follow safety procedures and wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE), which may include protective clothing, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, a welding helmet and respiratory protection where required.

Apprentices complete a 2 year training program in Perth, upon successful completion of the course you will receive a Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade (MEM31925) qualification and commence work at one of our mine sites. All training is undertaken at our training academy in Perth. While training you will be working a 7 Days / 7 Off / 7 Nights / 7 Off roster on 10.5 hour shifts.

If you’re not familiar with the trade and it’s duties on a mine site, we recommend you conduct your own research prior to applying. Please note this is not a FIFO position and you will need your own transport to and from the Academy.
