About the role

We are looking for a Facilities Officer to lead the execution of preventative & reactive maintenance across a range of assets including commercial lease properties, site offices, workshops and other non-production mine infrastructure. This role will be based in Weipa but will have a strong focus on assets at our Amrun operation across the Embley River, requiring a minimum weekly site visit with an overnight stay in the brand new Amrun Accommodation Village.
This role is a great opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic person who can support the Facilities & Services team and work efficiently and safely to ensure the facilities asset portfolio is maintained appropriately.Working a Monday to Friday roster and reporting to the Team Leader - Facilities, you will:
- Be accountable for daily interactions with multiple contractors for facilities maintenance, including raising work notifications in SAP, issuing work to the contractor and time confirmations/closing out job
- Act as the designated Contactor Supervisor for approval of contractor entry and associated safety documentation for contractors within your scope
- Attend contractor pre-starts to provide guidance and coaching in the use of the Rio Tinto safety systems
- Be responsible for scoping, scheduling and executing preventative & reactive maintenance and project works across a range of commercial and non-production mine assets
- Raise procurement purchase requisitions and follow the process from purchase order issue through to final time & material confirmations and approval of invoices in SAP
- Maintain a focus on active cost management and business improvement, contributing to the financial success of the Rio Tinto Weipa business.
What you will bring
To be considered for this role, you will have:
- A trade qualification, or significant experience in the building or construction industry
- A focus on safety, with a demonstrated ability to coach and mentor
- The ability to communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders at different levels
- A keen eye for detail and a pro-active approach to cost management
- An ability to work in a collaborative manner with others as part of a team to achieve a common goal
- Experience in the coordination of activities across multiple work fronts
- Previous experience with SAP planning, scheduling and notifications/work orders will be highly regarded.

Where you will be working
Rio Tinto Aluminium – Weipa Operations
Our Weipa Operations includes three bauxite mines, processing facilities, ship loaders, an export wharf, two ports, power stations, a rail network and ferry terminals. Located on the Western Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland, each year the operation produces more than 35 million tonnes of bauxite.
Our operations are supported by a 1,900-strong workforce—including 26 per cent who are women and 25 per cent Indigenous employees. Activities include mine operations, maintenance, asset management, ports, cultural heritage management, and processing facility management.
The development of our new mine, Amrun, which was completed in 2018, will extend the life of our Weipa bauxite operations by decades to come and significantly build on our 55-year history on the Western Cape.
