We are looking for a Field Assistant to increase the level of ore-body knowledge to support business decisions and planning, and increase the resource portfolio to maintain resource to reserve conversion ahead of reserve depletion.
This is a great opportunity for a field sampling professional to provide logistic support for Resource Development (RD) drilling projects and supervision, training and mentoring of contract Field Assistants in all aspects of safety and field related tasks on RD field projects. This role is responsible for reinforcing quality work practices and maintaining strict quality control relating to sampling and data collection.

The Field Assistant is a key operational role within the RD department reporting to the Supervisor – Operations. RD is accountable for ensuring that RTIO mitigates the Orebody Knowledge (OK) risks associated with the known resources within the operating environment, and ensuring that resource opportunities in areas of limited OK are explored with the object of extending the life of the RTIO Operations and optimising current infrastructure. Whilst working to provide logistical support for RD programs, you will also be:
- Providing safe and efficient management of sample processing / collection / dispatch process
- Accurate and timely data entry incorporating a peer review to eliminate errors
- Efficient management of collar cutting. Example: Completing during sample collection (where applicable), backlog kept to minimum
- Zero RTIO vehicles/equipment no-shows without acceptable reason. Ensure assets are transported to correct drop point for servicing as scheduled
- Proactive inspection and reporting of project vehicles/equipment to minimise downtime
- Completion of compliance responsibilities and management of relevant data upload. Example: Quarterly lifting inspections, quarterly electrical inspections, monthly premise inspections
- Ensure project assets are registered and accounted for. Example: Generators, telehandlers, radios, tanks, hand-tools
- Monitor consumables and complete ordering required, ensuring stocktake is completed and order backlog is reviewed to alleviate over ordering of stock. Provide adequate reports to Leader
What you’ll bring
- Minimum 1 year experience as a field assistant
- Mechanical knowledge
- Mining industry knowledge
- Minimum 1-3 years in remote site exploration work
- Current Western Australian ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence
- Senior First Aid certification
- Safety based experience - Risk analysis, Job Hazard Analysis
- Heavy Vehicle Licence (National Class HR)
- 4WD Training
- Dogging Ticket

This role is for applicants residing in or willing to permanently relocate to Western Australia. Rio Tinto offers Fly in and fly out options from Perth, our regional FIFO hubs and the opportunity to live in our residential towns where applicable.
