About the Role

In this role you will leverage Surface Water Engineering capability to improved mine productivity. Come and join this dynamic, supportive and inclusive team who approach challenges as opportunities to improve together. This is a 6 months fixed term role based at Saraji Mine site on a 4/3 or 5/2 roster offering flexible travel arrangements. Reporting to the Water Planning Superintendent you will: 

•    Identify opportunities for innovation and improvement in mine water management; •    Maintain technical expertise and participate in technical working groups; •    Support water planners as required to provide expert guidance and input to Engineering projects; •    Undertake technical studies, conceptual designs and technical reviews; •    Prepare conceptual designs for water management infrastructure; •    Identify and develop engineering tools and work instructions; •    Incorporate climate change to Surface Water Models and maintain the Surface Water Climate Change guideline; •    Participate in risk assessments and identify and develop tools for quantifying water risks and water value; •    Leverage in-house Surface Water Engineering capability to reduce overall consultant spend; •    Identify and lead improvement initiatives; •    Engaging with and managing external consultants and stakeholders.

About You

A tertiary qualification in engineering preferably Civil/ water related discipline will be highly regarded as will experience within the coal mining industry. You will be CPEng certified or eligible to apply for RPEQ. A C-Class driver’s license will be a mandatory requirement for this position. As a subject matter expert in your field you will leverage off your prior experience and genuine passion for water management, imparting your technical ‘know how’ and expertise to build team capability. Your success will be heavily influenced by your strong communication, stakeholder management and interpersonal skills, coupled with your ability to identify issues before they arise & decision making abilities. You will have:

  • Experience in Surface Water Drainage.
  • Pipe & Pump, surface dewatering & Haul Rd micro and macro drainage.
  • Experience with Materials (civil) will be highly regarded.
  • Preferred skills (but not critical):
    • Crushing, haul road pavement, materials blending
    • Modelling pipeline hydraulics and hydrology
    • Software skills: ArcGIS, 12d Civil Design, WaterGEMS, XPRAFTS, TUFLOW
