About the role 

We are looking for a Field Hydrogeologist to provide technical leadership and oversight to Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s (RTIO’s) Hydrogeological Field Programmes. The role exists within the Resource Development Division. 

This role is a great opportunity for a highly motivated individual. You will be part of a field-based team of hydrogeologists and technical officers whose remit is to support the execution of hydrogeological field programmes. The programmes are integral to the ongoing management of water-related risk to our established operations and greenfield developments in the Pilbara and encompasses a diverse array of activities spanning drilling, aquifer testing and groundwater monitoring. 

Working an 8 days on, 6 days off roster, reporting to one of the Water Resource Evaluation (WRE) Senior Field Hydrogeologists, you will be responsible for: 

  • Supervising technical aspects of the hydrogeological drilling, installation and aquifer testing of water supply, dewatering and groundwater monitoring infrastructure;
  • Daily collection, entry and interpretation of hydrogeological data, preparation of field programme completion reports and conducting analyses of aquifer testing data;
  • Provide active safety and technical leadership of field programmes;
  • Work collaboratively with the WRE Hydrogeologists and Contract Partners to execute the Scope of Works; and
  • Maintain adherence to scientific method in the execution of hydrogeological investigations.

About you 

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have: 

  • An unrestricted 'C' Class Driver's Licence;
  • A minimum Bachelor's Degree in a relevant Hydrogeology or Geosciences field;
  • Commitment to health, safety and environment, promoting positive behaviour and a supportive safety culture through visible leadership;
  • Be highly attuned to issues of hydrogeological data capture, quality control and information workflow;
  • Previous experience in hydrogeological field investigations will be considered favourably; and
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work within a dynamic team environment.

It will also be beneficial if you have: 

  • Post-graduate qualifications in hydrogeology;
  • Relevant mine site 4WD training & qualifications;
  • Current Senior First Aid qualification;
  • Membership of relevant professional societies;
  • Appreciation of the minimum construction requirements for water bores in WA; and
  • Understanding of WA regulatory environment applicable to water.
