About the Role

BHP has an exciting opportunity for a Field Hydrogeologist to join our team of highly skilled water professionals in our Brisbane office.  As a Field Hydrogeologist you will travel to our mine sites throughout Queensland and lead the field supervision of hydro bore drilling and completion in accordance with the scope of work and obtain compliance to plan.

In this role you will lead scheduling of hydro bores with Geosciences, undertake rig supervision, groundwater bore sampling & testing and logger installation upon completion of the bores. You will provide relevant specialist advice to stakeholders and work with the team to deliver on the hydrogeological requirements for the BHP Coal businesses.

This is a 12 month fixed term role which requires travel to our mine sites in accordance with the drilling schedule.  There is significant opportunity for professional development and is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic, supportive and inclusive team.

Reporting to the Superintendent Stewardship and Technical, your responsibilities include:

  • Identify opportunities for innovation and advancement in hydrogeological drilling;
  • Liaise with stakeholders to obtain ground truthing, cultural heritage, land access and other necessary approvals for hydro bore dill locations;
  • Ensure compliance to plan and hydro bore drilling schedule on track (0-90 day drill schedule);
  • Field supervision & ensure Hydro bores drilled as per scope of work, bore completion criteria and Australian guidelines.
  • Undertake groundwater quality sampling of bore & supervise aquifer tests as required.
  • Ensure loggers are successfully installed & data presented in bore completion report.
  • Liaise with HSE/Environment to communicate hydro bore drilling execution and handover at completion for ongoing monitoring.
  • Manage any contracts if required as per BMA process.  

About You

You will ideally possess the following skills and experience:

  • Skills and Qualifications: Degree in geoscience, engineering, environmental science or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in hydrogeology, bore installation and demonstrated application of best practice and technical leadership.
  • Strong safety focus.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills including the ability to influence and build effective relationships with a range of internal stakeholders.
  • Experience in the mining and resources industry will be highly regarded.
