We are looking for a Field Studies & Monitoring Lead for our ground-breaking closure project, where you will lead a small site-based team that delivers the environmental studies and completes the development and implementation of all closure environmental monitoring programs for the Ranger Closure Project.

This team will also have a key role in the engagement with Mirarr traditional owners as part of the cultural reconnection work. This will include the engagement with and training of local indigenous employees and contractors to transition monitoring and maintenance activities. This will be completed in together with the Cultural Landscape team

This is a great opportunity for a passionate leader to implement strategies including procedures and processes associated with environment studies and monitoring.

Reporting to the Manager Approvals and Cultural Heritage and working Monday to Friday day shift, you will:

  • Lead, create and maintain a climate in which individuals feel included, valued and all team members are clear about responsibilities, expectations, and objectives,
  • Plan and execute the environmental studies for closure, including water quality, sediment, erosion, contaminated sites, bush foods and ecosystem reconstruction.
  • Develop and implement a closure environmental monitoring program to transition the site from an operational monitoring program to post closure
  • Work closely with traditional owners to develop skills in environmental monitoring
  • Engage with stakeholder groups on the outcomes of environmental studies and monitoring programs

This role can be based in Jabiru (the local town) or commute from Darwin on a 5/2 roster arrangement.

Where you will be working 

Energy Resources of Australia Ltd (ERA) is a publicly listed company with Rio Tinto its major shareholder. ERA has mined and produced uranium oxide from its Ranger mine in the beautiful and rugged Alligator Rivers area of the Northern Territory since 1980. The Ranger mine is located on Aboriginal land, and is surrounded by, but separate from Kakadu National Park.

Mining at Ranger ceased in November 2012 and since then, Ranger has been processing ore from stockpiles.

The role is either Darwin based on a Bus in Bus out arrangement between Ranger Mine and Darwin, or locally based residential in Jabiru. Subsidised housing arrangements for Jabiru residents will be included.
