Rio Tinto Copper is looking for a Field Technician Lead to implement the delivery of operational and logistical support services for the Resource Development team at our Winu project in Western Australia. Delivery of these services will ensure safe and effective field operations.
This role is a great opportunity for someone with proven generalist field experience to play a vital role within the project team. The Field Technician Lead must want to be part of the Rio Tinto Copper team and have a passion for field activities and the coordination of logistics and operational requirements.
You need to be able to travel to the remote Winu project within Western Australia as this role will be based on site working a fly-in fly-out roster.
Reporting to the Superintendent Resource Geology you will:
- Support the Resource Development team at Winu to safely and effectively complete drilling programs, to include hydrogeological, RC and diamond drilling.
- Coordinate the work of Field Technicians and contractors in the field to ensure adherence to Health, Safety, Environment and Community (HSEC) and project standards
- Assist with the management of core farm facilities including management of core farm storage and coordination of the sample despatch process
- Assist with collection of groundwater data, completion of field surveys prior to earthworks for drilling operations and completion of post-drilling site rehabilitation requirements
- Train personnel in the processing of drill core, to include tasks such as core orientation and mark up, cutting and sampling, specific gravity measurements and core photography
- Lead, train and mentor team members with HSEC policies and procedures as well as operating skills.
- Provide line leadership of at least one Resource Development Field Technician
- Collaborate with Resource Development team members to ensure work and resources are allocated to meet project priorities and requirements
What you’ll bring

- Current C Class driving licence
- Experience supervising Field Technician personnel in a Resource Development or Exploration team, with skills in areas such as core farm operations, diamond and RC sampling quality control and working safely around remotely operating drilling operations
- Experience working in remote field-based environments
- The ability to make assessments and apply practical judgement to identify hazards and risks, take mitigating action, and interpret standards, to achieve safe and effective practices working in uncontrolled and challenging physical environments
- Demonstrated ability to solve operational problems, adapt to change quickly and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency
- Current licences - HR, Forklift/Telescopic Material Handler, and High-Risk Work - will be beneficial

Where you’ll be working
Winu is a 100% Rio Tinto owned copper-gold mineralisation project in the Yeneena Basin of the Paterson Province in Western Australia. The project is located approximately 130 km north of the Telfer mine and 350 km southeast of Port Hedland. Teams at Winu are taking an agile approach to greenfield project development and being innovative in the way we bring a mine from exploration to production.
This role will be offered on a permanent full time basis and site-based on a fly-in, fly-out roster.
