ABOUT PORT KEMBLA COAL TERMINAL (PKCT)

South32 Illawarra Metallurgical Coal manages PKCT on behalf of its shareholders.  PKCT is a key coal exporting facility on Australia’s east coast, located 75 km south of Sydney. It services two of the nation’s richest coal reserves, the Southern and Western coalfields of New South Wales, receiving and loading high quality coking and thermal coal for export around the world.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a permanent full-time position based at Port Kembla Coal Terminal in the coastal city of Wollongong and approximately 75 kilometres south of Sydney. Although being employed by South32, you will work exclusively as part of the Port Kembla Coal Terminal team of over 80 local employees.

Reporting to the Business Services Manager and Company Secretary, you will lead the delivery of financial services at PKCT including management of Technology One financial modules. You will provide governance over financial activities at PKCT including compliance with relevant legislation, accounting standards and tax law.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Management and delivery of financial services including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking, fixed assets, and general ledger
  • Drive effective cost management processes including evaluating and assisting implementation of cost saving initiatives
  • Lead, coach and mentor Business Services team to ensure delivery against required performance targets
  • Manage the execution and maintain the integrity of financial reporting and cost management processes including month end close, cost reporting, capital governance, ad-hoc reporting and monthly Board reporting

ABOUT YOU

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

  • Guiding, developing and influencing practice across financial services, management reporting, taxation, statutory reporting and compliance activities
  • Ability to drive cost efficiencies and continual improvement across standard and automated transaction processing
  • Strong commercial acumen and communication skills coupled with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels of the business
  • Ability to understand complex concepts and communicate in a simple concise language
  • Proficiency in the use of Technology One/SAP or equivalent

Qualifications for this position are:

  • Finance degree or equivalent
  • CPA or CA qualified
