Our Telfer operation in Australia is now recruiting for the position of Fire Systems- Technician.

Located In the Great Sandy Desert in the East Pilbara region of Western Australia, the Telfer gold-copper mine is our fly-in-fly-out operation, comprising of both open pit and underground. Who we�re looking for

Telfer and Newmont are currently seeking a safety-conscious and diligent Fire Systems Technician to support safe production at Telfer by ensuring reliable operation, maintenance and longer-term integrity of the site wide fire systems including Surface & Underground operations. Please note this role is on an 8/6 Roster FIFO from Perth. 

Reporting to the Fire Systems Supervisor, key deliverables of this role include:

  • Maintenance of equipment in a reliable and cost-efficient condition
  • Leading by example in adherence to company policies and procedures
  • Monitoring and reporting on status of Fire Systems and equipment, and ensuring statutory paperwork is kept to a high standard
  • Provide guidance to fire technicians short & long term
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement

To succeed in this role, you will have a demonstrated track record in continuous improvement of assets with competencies in Fire Detection & Alarm Systems, Gaseous Fire Suppression Systems.

In addition to the above key skills, you will also ideally have:

  • Proven experience in maintenance, commissioning, inspection or testing of fire systems with exposure to large scale mining and process plant operations & maintenance
  • Experience with Wet, Deluge and Foam Deluge Sprinkler Systems and PEFS will be advantageous
  • Sound knowledge of Acts, Regulations and Australian Standards
  • Electrical or Mechanical Trade qualification will be highly regarded
  • Willingness and the ability to work underground
  • Certificate II in Fire Protection Inspection and Tagging or Certificate III in Electrotechnology
  • High commitment to safety along with excellent decision making and delegation skills
  • Computer literacy and understanding of SAP will be beneficial
  • Current C Class drivers’ licence
