We are looking for various Mechanical Fitter/Machinist who will be responsible for assisting MWS with the Refurbishment of various fixed plant pumps, crushers & gearboxes, machining, and refurbishment operations on various HME components and Rail rolling stock components. MWS also provides fixed plant maintenance support through workshop and occasional site activities during shutdown maintenance and breakdown repairs.

Reporting to the Supervisor and working a 4,5,5-day lifestyle roster you will be:
- Refurbishment and repair of equipment in the workshop environment.
- Perform machining tasks on various metal turning and shaping machines.
- Interpreting parts and fabrication drawings.
- Ensuring clear communication to MWS workshop Supervisor & MWS Co-Ordinator task progress and trouble areas.
- Raising work requests, requisitioning of parts using 1SAP system.
- Following specific maintenance programs and procedures.
- Ensuring that all documentation and data entry is accurately completed.
- Maintain a high-level working knowledge of safety processes.
- Safe and productive work practices
- Assist in the continuous improvement of Rio Tinto processes
- Compliance with all Rio Tinto Engineering policies and procedures
What you’ll bring
- Mechanical Trade Qualification (required).
- A current Drivers Licence
- Previous experience in plant component repairs, maintenance, and refurbishment
- Previous experience in use of metal turning, shaping and machine tools.
- Dogging, rigging, EWP, Forklift (desirable).
- A good understanding of 1SAP system.
- Experience in repairs and maintenance to various fixed plant items
- Ability to work as part of a diverse team
- NC / CNC programming experience beneficial

Where you will be working
Our Weipa Operations includes three bauxite mines, processing facilities, ship loaders, an export wharf, two ports, power stations, a rail network and ferry terminals. Located on the Western Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland, each year the operation produces more than 35 million tonnes of bauxite.
Our operations are supported by a 1,900-strong workforce—including 26 per cent who are women and 25 per cent Indigenous employees. Activities include mine operations, maintenance, asset management, ports, cultural heritage management, and processing facility management.
The development of our new mine, Amrun, which was completed in 2018, will extend the life of our Weipa bauxite operations by decades to come and significantly build on our 55-year history on the Western Cape.
