About the role:
We are looking for a Functional Architect – Asset Management / SAP MPA to play a pivotal role in ensuring Rio Tinto obtain continual value from their core technology assets while identifying, planning, delivering and supporting new project requirements in the domain of asset management. This role comes with the opportunity to shape the future asset management technology landscape using innovative solutions as part of Rio Tinto’s digital transformation.
As a Functional Architect, you will be part of the IST Business Partner team for the Group Technical function within Rio Tinto. Our primary stakeholder is the Rio Tinto Asset Management Centre of Excellence, but we also support our IST peers deliver projects for asset management teams for their respective product groups.

Reporting to the IS&TBusiness Partner, Group Technical and working in a collaborative and exciting environment within our global IS&T Team, you will:
- Provide thought leadership on all aspects of asset management technology
- Build relationships with senior stakeholders to deeply understand their business priorities, scope initiatives and document business requirements
- Co-create the digital strategy for asset management in partnership with our stakeholders, build the roadmaps to deliver on the strategy
- Analyse, design, and propose solutions that are appropriate for the business and align with technology strategy
- Produce solution architecture and technical design documentation for implementation by one of our partners, provide support to ensure the agreed design is delivered successfully
- Engage with the Enterprise Architecture and Cyber teams to ensure conformance to standards and gain endorsement
- Collaborate across IST service lines and functions within the Technical Platforms team to shape solutions and ensure supportability
- Identify and drive improvements to IST processes to sustain and improve IST’s overall service delivery
- Build a culture where success is celebrated, ideas are shared, and continuous improvement aligned to business priorities is an ongoing focus.
What you’ll bring
- Deep understanding of asset management business process and how applications and platforms such as SAP underpin the processes
- Extensive experience in capturing business and technical requirements using a variety of techniques and methods, demonstrated customer centricity
- Highly developed verbal, written, presentation, facilitation and negotiation skills
- Extensive technical experience implementing SAP MPA functionality in large mining companies
- Technical knowledge of capital management within SAP (PPM and PS)
- Functional knowledge of the GE APM platform highly desirable
- Good understanding of technology project governance as well as a consultative can-do attitude, analytical mindset, and complex problem solving-abilities
- A focus on delivering customer value, with the ability to rapidly understand business priorities and shape solution options, exceptional stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
- The ability to prioritise competing customer demand to deliver the best outcome for the business – based on cost, value and risk
