Reporting to the Vice President Operations, the purpose of this role is to set direction for the Mine Planning, Production, Maintenance and Statutory/ Compliance departments across Boddington Mine, Overland Bauxite Conveyor (OBC) and Bauxite Residue Dams (BRDAs) to ensure delivery against performance targets for safety, production and unit costs. Ensuring efficient delivery of specified Bauxite volume and quality to the Refinery to meet overarching business objective.
Safe and efficient delivery of key raw materials (caustic, coal, water, biomass) to the refinery.
Responsible for the long-term strategy of Boddington mine operation, OBC and BRDAs through planning and effective management of people
As part of the Worsley Leadership Team, this is a pivotal role that will drive the Worsley Alumina operation to become the World’s leading Alumina producer.
Accountabilities
Primary responsibilities are to:
- Lead the safe system of work for the Boddington mine and raw materials team
- Ensure delivery of South32s safety guarantee
- Oversee the statutory and legal obligations in relation to compliance, material risk, health and safety
- Develop, maintain and lead effective relationships with governments, regulators, community, traditional owners, major contractors, unions and other external stakeholders to influence positive business outcomes
- As part of the Worsley leadership team shape and drive the Inclusion & Diversity strategy
- Establish strong relationships and drive performance to optimize the mine – refinery interface to contribute to the overall business goal
- Develop the mine plan and strategic maintenance plans for key infrastructure in line with the business wide asset management strategy
- Set the strategy and lead the development of the Mine and Materials Business Plan
- Develop strategies and manage the implementation of improvement plans that deliver benefits across the value chain and result in overall benchmark performance on volumes, unit costs, capital efficiencies, operational capacity, productivity and optimised use of working capital
- Maintain Mine and Materials site ‘license to operate’
- Create strategy for capital investments for approval by the Chief Operating Officer
- Make key long-term mining and infrastructure/asset management decisions that determine the future viability and delivery of the Worsley Alumina vision.
- Establish working interfaces with major projects for future mine development
About You
- Demonstrated deep knowledge and experience related to effective management of geographically dispersed teams
- Demonstrated ability to lead change including decision-making that has transformed an operation
- Substantial experience in a management role for the heavy industry. Any experience in Open Cut Mining is preferred but not essential
- Demonstrated ability to contribute, influence and make decisions within multi-functional teams
- Demonstrated ability to select, develop, coach and mentor employees resulting in improved inclusion, engagement, diversity and organisational capability
- Ability to effectively communicate and influence across various levels of the business, written and oral
- Experienced professional that has that has guided, developed and influenced practice in the Maintenance and/or Production of an Operation. Requires detailed knowledge of principles and concepts related to both own functional area and other functions.
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualifications in mining, commercial or engineering discipline is mandatory
- Certificate of competence to be a mining manager for an open cut mine is preferred, but not essential
- Western Australia Quarry Manager Certificate of Competency is preferred, but not essential
- Master of Business Administration or equivalent management training is preferred, but not essential.
