About the Role

The main aspects of this role are to provide timely, high quality geological input into the mining process and promote safe working practices in the Mine Technical Services Department. This role will also focus on the day-to-day mining operations at the current Mt Keith open cut operation plus creating and executing the pre-work linked to the development of the Mt Keith Satellite Mine project based on the Yakabindie deposit.

The candidate will have the opportunity to be involved in setting up a long-term open cut operation which has the potential to lead into greater roles and responsibilities. We are looking for the right candidate who is team focused and able to lead through innovation and performance.

The key functions provided by the Field Technician role include:

  • Conduct dig face inspections to inform diggers on ore/waste contacts and inform operators how to treat talc and waste
  • Maintain the relevant core yard facilities to the desired standard. Maintain the process for waste management.
  • Conduct daily stockpile ROM and LTSP inspections
  • Escorting of equipment to/from project areas
  • Assisting in surveys (including heritage / environmental)
  • Sampling and Geology Support
  • Undertake all sampling related tasks, including the recording of information into electronic systems, sample/core pickup and dispatch
  • Collect bulk samples upon request
  • Support technical geology team through the creation of chip trays, photography of core or as requested by Geology Supervisor
  • Undertake project closeout activities including collar cutting, collection of signage, removal of waste materials

Nickel West Mt Keith:  

Nickel West Mt Keith is located 460 kilometres north of Kalgoorlie in the Northern Goldfields.  It is is a surface mining operation with multiple open pits and a concentrator plant. The operation is surrounded by pastoral stations, with the nearest townships being Leinster and Wiluna.  There’s plenty to keep you entertained in the Mt Keith Village. Take the heat off the day and head to the pool – or join in any number of social activities. Employees commute to and from Perth on a fly in / fly out roster or form regional areas on a drive in / drive out roster.
