The Opportunity – Permanent, Full Time Position
The Geometallurgist – Planning role is responsible for applying our geometallurgical framework across the business by ensuring that our geometallurgical testing programs, data collection and analysis supports our objective of maximising the value of our operations. In addition, the role will support our newly created Technology Development Orebody Knowledge workstream by identifying and evaluating emerging technologies and providing guidance on their potential across the business.
Reporting to the Lead Resource Geology key role accountabilities include:
- Reviewing, scoping, and supporting geometallurgical programs for operations and projects
- Ensuring ore characteristics are understood for each operation
- Compiles a list of relevant variables required for developing geometallurgical models
- Supporting the development of predictive geometallurgical models for key value drivers for each operation
- Developing robust database management and QA/QC processes for geometallurgical sampling programs
- Improving the quality and utilisation of geometallurgical data
- Identifies options to process lower grade or yield (recovery) material and opportunities for the reprocessing of tailings material
- Participates in periodic review of process recovery data to ensure improved processing related input parameters
- Manages and builds relationships with other Planning sub-functions and key Operational and Functional stakeholders
- Drives technical excellence for geometallurgy
About You
You will be required to have the following:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in mine geology and/or processing including considerable ability in the development of geometallurgical models
- An understanding of the mining and minerals industry, mine development and mine operating practices, mineral processing strategies, and infrastructure requirements to support mining ventures
- Knowledge of behaviour of ore during processing, comminution and associated mineral extraction technologies such as flotation, leaching, gravity recovery and ore sorting
- Understanding of ore mineralogy, deposit types and geology, and the influences of these factors on processing plant performance
- Competency in exploratory data analysis including multivariate data analysis
- Ability to work at the strategic level
- Strong and effective communication and engagement skills to work at all levels of the business
- Relationship building skills: demonstrated empathy, emotional intelligence, and cross-cultural effectiveness with the ability to achieve consensus and build alignment cooperatively
Qualifications
- Relevant degree or higher in metallurgy, mineral processing, geology or another related field
