We are looking for a Geophysicist to join our Iron Ore - Resource Development team in Perth. Focused on realising and adding value to current and future projects, this great opportunity is a key technical role and will ensure that downhole geophysical logging, surface geophysical surveys and associated activities are planned and executed safely, with results delivered to a high standard and in a timely manner.
Resource Development is a department within Operational and Technical Support. To be successful the candidate needs to work closely and personably with many internal and external stakeholders (including Technical Services, Mine Engineering, and Operations), to identify gaps and opportunities in resource understanding, and project delivery.
Reporting to the Senior Geophysicist you will:
- Be accountable for the timely delivery of high quality and fit for purpose geophysical data for integration into the geological modelling and estimation process.
- Ensure robust planning and the safe execution of high quality and fit for purpose geophysical programs to enhance Geoscientific, Environmental, Hydrogeological and Geotechnical decision making.
- Support and pursue innovative process improvements for data collection, processing and geophysical modelling to ensure optimum delivery of geophysical data and analyses.
- Drive efficiency and support automation of current processes.
- Demonstrate your values of Care, Curiosity, and Courage to provide ongoing technical support for stakeholders throughout Rio Tinto and the Resource Development team.
What you will bring
Ideally, you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Geophysics, Geoscience or Geodata Science – a practical Honours or above in a relevant project is advantageous, but not a requirement.
- Programming and data science skills with an ability to read/write Python are highly regarded.
- Excellent engagement skills and ability to build relationships in a collaborative inclusive environment with numerous diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated knowledge of geoscientific software (preferably ArcGIS, Oasis Montaj, Leapfrog, and acQuire).
- An understanding of the fundamentals of petrophysical (i.e. density and magnetic susceptibility) and geophysical (i.e. magnetics, gravity, and electromagnetics) data collection, processing, and interpretation practices.
- Acceptance of the importance of Aboriginal Heritage and the need to ensure our geophysical plans don’t impact these sites is a must.
- A ‘C’ class manual driver’s licence is essential.
