We are looking for a Database Administrator with strong field experience or an experienced Geoscientist or Operator with a passion for data to lead initiatives to improve data management systems and processes within Resource Development division of Rio Tinto Iron Ore. The ideal candidate will possess a solid background in geoscience, with a strong interest in data, systems and technology.

This role presents an exciting opportunity to utilize your operational or field experience to enhance the value of this critical data that we collect and manage.

Existing systems managed within the Resource Geology and Data Management team include ProTrak, acQuire, Envirosys and Imago.

Based in Perth with occasional site travel to the Pilbara, this role has the following key responsibilities:

  • Use knowledge of Resource Development (RD) division purpose and workflow to guide scope and requirements capture for new systems and modifications / refinement to existing systems
  • Designing and deploying improved processes for data capture and management
  • Build relationships and develop/maintain a communications framework across RD functions.
  • Maintain relationships with RD field teams through site visits to ensure system / practice alignment
  • Assist design and execution of RD Data Management Strategy
  • Develop close relationships with IST business partners and build support for RD’s digital transformation and modernisation
  • Use network of experienced RD SME’s across all RD functions to deliver collaborative systems support
  • Develop/use in depth understanding of RD planning, technical and field operations process, workflow, data usage and integration opportunities to support RD program and model delivery
  • Interface with external system providers to maintain and enhance performance and user experience.
  • Support design and data access requirements necessary to provide RD and the broader RT business with C2P visibility

About You

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • An interest in data and systems with the ability to work proactively
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • A desire and enthusiasm to get involved, and to have a go, supported by a “can-do” attitude
  • A thorough understanding of resource development processes, from planning, earthworks, drilling, data collection, interpretation, modelling
  • Experience in using or supporting Geoscientific Data Management systems such as ProTrak, acQuire or Envirosys
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively and build relationships across multiple stakeholders
  • Prior experience in geoscience operations or fieldwork is highly desirable

Where you’ll be working

You and your team will be Perth based with opportunity to work flexibly from home combined with time in our Central Park offices. Our wider Geoscience team is spread across a combination of Perth and Pilbara Resource Development sites. 

This role is open to both full time and part time applicants. Some visits to Pilbara sites will be required: however these can be accommodated on a very flexible basis.
