Geotechnical Engineer

Work Location: Perth - Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people.

Roster: Monday to Friday

Reporting to the Specialist Geotechnical Engineer Design, we are seeking the talents of a dynamic and skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join our team and help deliver projects from conception through to execution. This is a Perth based role and will be supporting our Senior Geotechnical Engineers and working closely with our Structural and Assurance teams.

In this position, you will draw upon your experience with mining operations, geotechnical data collection, rockmass and structural characterisation, and slope stability analysis, to deliver value adding solutions to open pit and waste landform design.

Key responsibilities include:

    • Provide geotechnical support to mining operations in the form of geotechnical data collection program planning, execution, and slope stability design review
    • Provide technical advice and consultation with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
    • Geotechnical modelling and reporting related to open pits and waste rock dumps
    • Definition of slope monitoring requirements and implementation
    • Identifying and communicating geotechnical risk
    • Maintain a collaborative relationship with other business units and external parties, contribute to knowledge building and awareness, support development of geotechnical systems
    • Irregular site travel to support geotechnical design work across our operations

Qualifications and Experience:

    • A tertiary qualification in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering geology, Civil Engineering, or similar
    • Experience in open pit slope stability modelling, analysis and operational management
    • Knowledge of geotechnical data collection, laboratory testing and mine planning processes is essential
    • Excellent communication and report writing skills, with a demonstrated experience of communicating to a variety of stakeholders
    • Competent use of Vulcan and the Rocscience suite of software
    • Strong data management and manipulation skills
    • Strong team skills
