Cadia Valley Operations is located in Central Western New South Wales, approximately 25 kms outside the vibrant regional township of Orange and a convenient three hours from the capital city of Sydney. Employees reside in varied accommodation options in and around the district of Orange with the surrounding area’s occupied by wineries, stone fruit orchards, farming and national parks.

Who we’re looking for  

Reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will provide support and services to our Underground Operations and other Technical Services at Cadia Valley Operations.

The Geotechnical Engineer will contribute to mitigate the potential and outcomes of geotechnical hazards to the site, company, and personnel. In addition, you will be actively involved in development and rehabilitation planning, geotechnical hazards management, and scheduling at an operational level.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Underground inspections that include mapping of damage to excavations and ground support, liaising with crews at the face, general ground inspections, and post firing seismic exclusion re-entries.
  • Daily and weekly Seismicity analysis and reporting.
  • Liaising with planning and Operations Engineers to provide geotechnical input about upcoming development, cave establishment firings and rehabilitations among others.
  • Updating of Firing Induced Seismic Exclusion Zones in IMS Ticker and PDF formats, and communication thereof through drafting of Firing Notes.
  • Drafting of Approved For Construction (AFCs) documents for the execution of approved excavations and ground support designs.
  • Drafting of Not To Specification Reports (NTSRs) for the execution of required support rehabilitation.
  • Lidar Scanning of excavations and convergence analysis.
  • I-Site mapping of Geological structures and wedge analysis using UnWedge.
  • Geotechnical presentations to Crews and information sessions

The ideal candidate will have strong communication and interpersonal skills and have the ability to influence key stakeholders to meet business objectives.

You will also possess the following

  • Experience in hard rock and underground mining (preferable)
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in either geotechnical, mining, civil engineering, or geology disciplines
  • Mandatory: Open manual car licence
