Cadia Valley Operations is located in Central Western New South Wales, approximately 25 kms outside the vibrant regional township of Orange and a convenient three hours from the capital city of Sydney. Who we’re looking for
Reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, the Geotechnical Engineer will join the Strategy and Integrated Planning Department at Cadia Valley Operations. You will be coached and mentored where necessary, to uphold the standards in geotechnical engineering, prioritise the safety of personnel, infrastructure, and equipment on site.
In addition, you will focus on the strict implementation, utilisation, and upkeep of rigorous geotechnical designs and systems. This is a diverse role that incorporates field inspections, reporting and project work within the department, focusing on monitoring and cave establishment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Responsible for the completion of weekly, fortnightly and/or monthly monitoring reports on cave monitoring and cave establishment by summarising monitoring data and performance of cave establishment against initial designs and forecasts.
- Maintaining clear and concise documentation with prompt communication provided to the appropriate stakeholders of outcomes from your time in the field.
- Characterising the performance of the monitoring systems and cave establishment by collating and summarising data attained through engineering observations, extensometers, LiDAR, Cave Beacons, Network SMART Markers, Beacon Detectors, and seismic monitoring.
- Responsible for rectifying where the monitoring system does not meet the minimum requirement as outlined within the Ground Control and Seismic Standards and Procedures.
- Assist in verifying all excavations remain within their intended design limits with respect to deformation capacity to ensure they meet the current approved ground control standard.
- Impromptu inspections and reporting completed for all high potential incidents as per legislative requirements and any site-based safety breach
The ideal candidate will have ideally finished a graduate program and have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
You will also possess the following:
- Experience in hard rock and underground mining – Highly regarded
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in either geotechnical, mining, civil engineering, or geology disciplines
- Mandatory: Open manual car licence
