ABOUT CANNINGTON 

Our Cannington operation is one of the world's largest producers of silver and lead.  Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometres west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville. Cannington mine provides on-site accommodation including meal services, as well as sporting and gym facilities.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

This is a permanent position on an 8:6 roster, FIFO from Townsville/Brisbane/Cairns or DIDO from Mount Isa to Cannington.

As the Geotechnical Engineer, you will support Mine Planning and Operations by working alongside a team to provide geotechnical advice, monitor design, installation, analysis, and response and design development rehabilitation and cablebolt plans. You will ensure that geotechnical risks are identified, monitored and managed.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to: 

  • Geotechnical assessment and input into the mine design, drill and blast, ground support, and paste processes.
  • Significant focus on optimal stope designs and identification of appropriate controls.
  • Assessment of excavation, rock mass and support performance.
  • Audits and QA/QC of ground support.

ABOUT YOU 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

  • Experience in hard rock, underground operation – ideally with open stope mining methods.
  • Problem solving skills which employ a risk-based approach.
  • Strong communication skills and the desire to be a team player.

Qualifications for this position are: 

  • Tertiary qualification in Geotechnical, Geology, Civil, or Mining Engineering and/or Post Graduate Geotechnical/Rock Mechanics.
