Fortescue is now consistently producing 175-180 million tonnes of iron ore per year and has an exciting future ahead as it diversifies from a pure play iron ore producer to a green renewables and resources company.

The company is scheduled to commence production at its Iron Bridge magnetite mine in mid-2022.

Iron Bridge is Fortescue’s US$2.6 billion project, set to deliver 22 mtpa of high grade 67% Fe magnetite concentrate product. Located 145 km by road south of Port Hedland, the mine will deliver an innovative process design and industry-leading energy efficient operation.

Geotechnical Engineer

Work Location: Fortescue’s Iron Bridge project is located on the traditional lands of the Nyamal people.

We are currently seeking a motivated Geotechnical Engineer to join the Iron Bridge Operations Planning team. Reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, this role is responsible for providing geotechnical support and services to safely achieve production targets.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Provide technical expertise and knowledge to supervision and management
  • Collect, collate and utilise geotechnical data to evaluate geotechnical risk
  • Conduct regular inspections as required
  • Provide geotechnical input into scheduling and design processes.
  • Geotechnical hazard identification and risk management
  • Manage the monitoring and alarm systems and processes
  • Assisting Senior Geotechnical engineer on geotechnical project works.

Qualifications and skills required:

  • A minimum two (2) years of experience in a Geotechnical role
  • Minimum a tertiary qualification in Mine Engineering, Rock Mechanics, Geology or Civil Engineering
  • Experience with Vulcan or similar and geotechnical software packages.
  • Intermediate to expert level ability in Microsoft suite i.e. Excel, Planner, Power BI, Power-point, Word etc.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and knowledge of Geotechnical monitoring techniques for open pit
  • Experience with risk assessment and investigation of Geotechnical hazards is desirable
  • Proven experience in Geotechnical modelling and analysis of ground stability and rockfalls
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Current, unencumbered Western Australia "C" Class, Manual Drivers License
