Cadia Valley Operations is located in Central Western New South Wales, approximately 25 kms outside the vibrant regional township of Orange and a convenient three hours from the capital city of Sydney. Who we’re looking for  

Reporting to the Specialist - Geotechnical Engineer, you will provide the highest geotechnical support and services to our Underground Operations and other Technical Services at Cadia Valley Operations.

You will coordinate between the preconditioning technical team, mine planners, and the project’s execution team and conduct field inspections on the preconditioning pads, surface areas, and underground workings.

It’s imperative that the Geotechnical Engineer – Hydrofracture will maintain secure and coherent records of preconditioning.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Liaison between the geotechnical team, technical planning team, and the project’s execution team.
  • Creation of preconditioning plans considering the approved design, interactions with surface and underground activities, and other geotechnical aspects of preconditioning.
  • Provide technical coverage on the geotechnical aspects of preconditioning where required.
  • Maintain clear and concise documentation with prompt communication provided to the appropriate stakeholders of outcomes from your time in the field.
  • Conducting inspections on the preconditioning pads, surface areas, and underground workings interacting with preconditioning.
  • Maintaining the geotechnical records and database of drilling, preconditioning physicals, and other relevant information to be used for preconditioning validation.
  • Responsible for verifications of design and compliance working with the project’s execution team, which may include; preconditioning and drilling performance, validation, achieved volume versus design, barricade compliance, interaction checks, and post‑preconditioning surface and underground inspections.
  • Responsible for the evaluation of the actual preconditioning and drilling performance and against the approved plans and forecast.

The ideal candidate will have strong communication and interpersonal skills and have sound hazard specific technical competency.

You will also possess the following:

  • Experience in hard rock (preferable) and underground mining
  • Experience in Hydraulic Fracturing – Highly regarded
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in either geotechnical, mining, civil, petroleum engineering, or geology disciplines
  • Mandatory: Open manual car licence
