About the role
This is a full-time permanent opportunity.
As an experienced Geotechnical Engineer in our Illawarra Metallurgical Coal (IMC) team at Appin Mine, you will be responsible for delivering professional services to site through:
- Reviewing and analysing strata monitoring,
- Managing and updating geotechnical models, databases, and plans
- Reviewing and designing strata support
- Geotechnical and conditional mapping
- Managing strata documentation (e.g. TARP’s, procedures, plans, etc.)
- Working collaboratively as part of Outburst and Coalburst risk management teams
- Initiating trials of new technologies, products, and systems
- Liaising with site management and workforce on identifying continuous improvement opportunities in the mining operations with timely solutions
- Contribute to optimising the mine plan through geotechnical considerations
- Maintain a strong focus on safety through QA/QC inspections and audits, mentoring and training

To be considered for the role, you will have:
- Undergraduate qualification in Geology or Mining Engineering
- Post Graduate qualifications in Strata Control is preferred but not essential
- Minimum of 3 years underground mining experience - coal mining experience preferred but not essential
- Experience with the monitoring and design of underground support systems
- Proven ability of working in a team of technical professionals
- Ability to effectively communicate and influence across various levels of the business
- Ability to plan, prioritise and work to effectively manage a dynamic workload
Location
This position will be based at the Appin mine which is in the southern coalfields of New South Wales, near the coastal city of Wollongong and approximately 75 kilometres south and southwest of Sydney.
