Cadia Valley Operations is located in Central Western New South Wales, approximately 25 kms outside the vibrant regional township of Orange and a convenient three hours from the capital city of Sydney. Employees reside in varied accommodation options in and around the district of Orange with the surrounding area’s occupied by wineries, stone fruit orchards, farming and national parks.

Who we’re looking for
Reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will provide strong geotechnical support and services to the Integrated Planning, Surface Operations, and other operational teams at Cadia Valley Operations.
You will assist the Senior Geotechnical Engineer in providing geotechnical engineering advice within the Integrated Planning team and to other relevant stakeholders.
Other responsibilities include:
- Assist Senior geotechnical engineer to develop, implement, and review all aspects of surface geotechnical and dam safety related major hazards on site.
- Collection and collation of Geotechnical data and information including field inspections, in-situ and remote monitoring data analysis (VWPs, SAAVs, Prisms, Radars, InSAR, drones, etc.), and surface monitoring system maintenance.
- Assisting in developing and maintain major hazard management strategies to meet operational and dam safety requirements.
- Conduct regular reporting of surface geotechnical monitoring and major hazard management.
- Conduct in-field verifications and safety audits to manage and monitor surface major hazards in operational and dam safety areas.
- Provide inputs to Senior Geotechnical Engineer to monitor operational areas conformance to design standards and hazard management plans.
The ideal candidate would have completed a graduate program with exposure to mining and/or civil industries and are committed to participate with Newcrest values and actively promote safety behaviours.
You will also possess the following:
- Tertiary qualification in Geotechnical, Civil or Mining Engineering
- Demonstrated history in Surface Geotechnical experience in Mining or Civil industries
- Tailings management or Dam safety experience – highly regarded
- Open Drivers Licence
