Cadia Valley Operations is located in Central Western New South Wales, approximately 25 kms outside the vibrant regional township of Orange and a convenient three hours from the capital city of Sydney. Employees reside in varied accommodation options in and around the district of Orange with the surrounding area’s occupied by wineries, stone fruit orchards, farming and national parks.

Who we’re looking for  

The Geotechnical Engineer will provide strong geotechnical support and services to the Dam Safety and governance teams, and other Technical Services at Cadia Valley Operations.  The position will have a focus on monitoring with a field component.

You will mitigate geotechnical material hazards to the site and company as well as ensure geotechnical systems and procedures are implemented, employed, and maintained. In addition, you will identify and implement business improvement through problem solving, innovation and technology.

The geotechnical Engineer will collate and collect Geotechnical data and information through the following: Engineering observations, Surface based monitoring methods, Slope and stability rockfall assessments, Surface Excavation & waste dump assessments, Tailings facility monitoring & data collection, seismic monitoring, rock mass or soil material data collection and subsidence and surface-based monitoring systems.

Other responsibilities include:

• Assist development of geotechnical procedures and standards and ensure compliance to principal hazard management plans and dam safety management plans.
• Assist developing surface and tailings storage facility hazard management strategies to meet surface operations and dam safety requirements.
• Develop surface geotechnical databases and control systems.
• Identifying and driving business improvement opportunities
• Ensure regular reporting and effective communication of geotechnical monitoring and risk management.
• Assist Principal Dam Management to provide geotechnical engineering advice within the Integrated Planning team and to other relevant stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator and have practical knowledge of surface mining/ civil geotechnical engineering and /or tailings facility management.

You will also possess the following: 

• Tertiary qualifications (Bachelors’ degree or higher) in either Geotechnical, Mining, Civil engineering, or Engineering Geology
• Open Manual class Drivers’ Licence
• Tailings management experience – Highly regarded.
