Cadia Valley Operations are currently seeking a technically-minded individual to join our Dam Safety team as Geotechnical Technician; where you will contribute maintaining a safe work environment; ensuring safety of people, plant and equipment.

This permanent position will be offered on a 7 days on / 7 days off roster, working 12 hour shifts.

Cadia Valley Operations is located in Central Western New South Wales, approximately 25 kms outside the vibrant regional township of Orange and a convenient three hours from the capital city of Sydney. Residential employees reside in varied accommodation options in and around the district of Orange with the surrounding area’s occupied by wineries, stone fruit orchards, farming and national parks.

Who we’re looking for  

Reporting to the Specialist – Dam Safety, you will be accountable for supporting the monitoring function of the Cadia Tailings facility and all other on-site dams.  You will provide effective monitoring data and reporting systems to support the ongoing safe construction of active tailings dams and safe management of inactive tailings dam areas.

Your responsibilities will include (but not limited to)

• Install new monitoring instrumentation that supports the delivery of data related with the monitoring program of the site dams. Ensure geotechnical systems and procedures are in implemented, employed, and maintained
• Manage ongoing inspection and maintenance requirements of monitoring instrumentation to ensure data delivery to the site dams data monitoring program
• Deliver suitable routine reporting of monitoring data related to the monitoring program for the site dams. Communicate results to geotechnical and design engineers, and construction management teams
• Contribute and assist with innovation, technology and methodology to support continuous improvement of monitoring and data collection of all dams on site to support the growth of the dam monitoring program
• Inspect and report on hazards related to dams to stakeholders to ensure safe ongoing management of personnel safety from geotechnical hazards
• Act as liaison to Operations; with regard to risk identification and risk management, including attendance of pre-start meetings
• Support key project delivery associated with construction of the Cadia tailings facility and other site dams to ensure the safe and productive project execution

While an Electrical / Mechanical trade background would be highly beneficial, we are open to technicians / operators with hands-on experience delivering installation & maintenance tasks.

As a safety focused professional who enjoys technical challenges and rewarding exposure, you will easily build relationships and demonstrate the highest professional and ethical standards ensuring all actions are transparent and in accordance with company policy and values.

Proficiency in use of data collection systems, coordinate systems, instrumentation and electronics will be highly regarded as well as a manual drivers licence.
