Telfer Operation
In the Great Sandy Desert in the East Pilbara region of Western Australia, our Telfer gold-copper mine is our fly-in-fly-out operation, comprising open pits, processing plant and an underground mine. While at site Telfer offers a diverse range of recreational activities including a gym, swimming pool, driving range, movie room and refurbished communal eatery.
The Role
We are searching for Geotechnical Technician, who will be pivotal in managing and supporting the monitoring functions of the Telfer Open Pit and Tailings facility. This role is crucial in providing accurate monitoring data and reporting systems to ensure the safe construction of active mining areas and tailings dam.
Roster: 8 days on 6 days off, flying on Fridays.
Key responsibilities:
- Install new monitoring instrumentation to support the open pit mining operations and Tailings facility's monitoring program.
- Manage ongoing maintenance of monitoring instrumentation to ensure continuous data delivery.
- Deliver routine reporting of monitoring data related to the tailings dam and open pit.
- Contribute to and assist with innovations, technologies, and methodologies to improve monitoring and data collection.
- Inspect and report on hazards related to the open pit and tailings facility to ensure personnel safety from geotechnical hazards.
- Support key project delivery associated with the Telfer tailings facility for safe and productive outcomes.
- Assist Open Pit Geotechnical Engineers in delivering business-critical outputs related to surface monitoring programs.
About You
The ideal candidate is a highly skilled and proactive individual with a solid foundation in geotechnical monitoring and instrumentation. This person is motivated by challenges and driven by a commitment to safety and innovation.
Other key requirements include:
- Proven experience and understanding of geotechnical instrumentation, electronics, and data collection techniques.
- Previous experience in tailings and deformation monitoring is highly desirable.
- Strong track record in maintaining a safe working environment, including identifying and mitigating geotechnical hazards.
- Effective experience working collaboratively with team members and stakeholders to achieve project goals.
- Proficient computer usage skills, including efficient file management, software proficiency, and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
- Full Class C Manual Driver’s licence is essential.
