About the role

We are looking for a GM Process Engineering and Major Hazards to lead a technical team in the fields of process engineering, metallurgy and major hazards risk management. The role of this team is to work with operations and studies to maximise the performance of current and future fixed plant assets, whilst maintaining quality and minimising risk in the processing and major hazards areas for Rio Tinto Iron Ore.

  • Leading and mentoring a diverse team

  • Developing, improving and implementing processing engineering systems and processes in Iron Ore

  • Building and progressing a portfolio of Metallurgy, Process Engineering and Process Control projects, in collaboration with Operations and Studies, to deliver outcomes in Health, Safety & Environment and Productivity

  • Providing technical support across our wide network of fixed-plant assets for processing and major hazards

  • Continuing implementation of the major hazards standards (tailings, process safety and functional safety) to reduce fatality risk

  • Collaborating with the Processing Centre of Excellence (CoE) team as well as other Product Groups to ensure best practice across the business

  • Championing capability development for Processing professionals across Iron Ore

  • Networking and collaborating with senior internal and external stakeholders

  • Ensuring alignment to Rio Tinto strategy, including projects supporting reduced impact mining
