We are Australia's largest pure-play coal producer generating over $10 billion in Foreign Direct Investment; owning, operating or participating in coal mines across NSW, Queensland and Western Australia.
Managed by Yancoal, Cameby Downs is a small open cut thermal coal mine in the Surat Basin in southern Queensland, between Chinchilla and Miles. We employ approximately 200 people, and aim to support our local communities.
Job Tasks and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Environment & Community Superintendent, you will be guided to undertake environmental monitoring and reporting of mining operations against policies and obligations. You will also assist in the development and coordination of site rehabilitation.
- Identify and control safety and environmental hazards and ensure corrective action is performed.
- Undertake routine environmental and safety audits, inspections and risk assessments
- Assist with the timely investigation of incidents and the implementation of corrective actions
- Conduct environmental sampling and product testing
- Record and preserve data to demonstrate the mine’s compliance with environmental standards and conditions
- Assist with the mine’s Waste Management System
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with key community stakeholders
- Educate and support employees to comply with environmental practices
- Perform any ad-hoc duties as reasonably requested
Skills and Experience

To be successful in the role, you will display the following skills and attributes:
- Tertiary qualification in environmental science, environmental engineering, agricultural science or other relevant degree
- A general understanding of environmental legislation
- A strong commitment to safety
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills with a positive and proactive attitude
- Effective problem-solving skills
- An enthusiasm to learn new skills
- Current Australian Open Driver's Licence
