Graduate Mine Geologist - Deflector

Deflector is a high-grade, narrow vein Gold and Copper mine that is located 160km east of Geraldton. It has a current 4-year mine life, with the ore body open at depth and along strike. The ore is comprised of multiple shear-hosted veins, stacked sub-vertically within the metabasalt host rock. With mining happening from both the Deflector and South-West mines, it is a busy and exciting time to join this high-margin success story.
THE ROLE
The newly created, expansion role of Graduate Mine Geologist will see you working closely with experienced and talented professionals to build an exceptional foundation in the industry. You will have the opportunity to be exposed to a broad range of technical tasks, varying deposits and both technical and hands-on practical experience. You will learn industry best practice while understanding how to operate in a safe, sustainable and efficient manner.
Key responsibilities of the role will include:
- Undertake diamond core processing, including logging, mark-up and orientation, core cutting, sampling and other related measurements
- Assist in Marking up ore drives and stope areas ahead of mining
- Assist with underground mapping and sampling to minimise ore loss and dilution and increase the geological understanding of the deposit
- Learn how to provide mining direction to ensure optimal ore position for stoping
- Ensure all data captured is recorded accurately
- Assist in entry of production data and the preparation of daily, weekly and monthly reports.
- Liaise with the Mine Geologists and Metallurgists to assist with ROM ore stockpile management to optimise the blend into the Process Plant
- Exposure to block model generation and drill program design
- Reporting daily grade control activities
- Exposure to Exploration team activities, such as soil sampling, RC, AC and Diamond drill programmes

You have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Geology are essential;
- Current C-class WA drivers licence;
- Ability to observe safety rules and regulations;
- Must be in good physical health;
- Be organised, self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision;
- Ability to work as part of a small and autonomous team;
- Be able to communicate effectively with staff of all levels;
- Vacation work experience within the Mining industry, ideally within Gold Mining, will be highly regarded.
This is an excellent opportunity to learn narrow-vein Gold & Copper mining geology, as part of a high performing team that is going from strength to strength. This role is being offered on an 8:6 FIFO roster, and will provide the support you need to excel in your role.
