About the role We are looking for a Groundwater Modeller to join the hydrogeology team, part of the Water Resources Evaluation (WRE) Group – Resource Development. Reporting to the regional Hub Senior Groundwater Modeller, your role will be to provide groundwater modelling support in the provision of hydrogeological services that contribute to the management of water related risk at our 16 mine iron ore sites in the Pilbara.
In this Perth based role, working Monday to Friday you will:
- Work on groundwater modelling aspects of projects using a variety of software platforms, finite element, finite difference, and analytical tools;
- Undertake the development, construction and maintenance (reconciliation) of mathematical flow models to support WRE in the assessment of environmental impacts, management of mine dewatering and water supply requirements for mines in your assigned Hub;
- Expand groundwater modelling and uncertainty analysis capability within the group;
- Assist in GIS and spatial data management;
- Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement in the mathematical modelling space;
- Scheduling works loads, including controlling costs, and ensuring quality performance.
About you
To be successfully considered for this role, you should have:
· Working knowledge of analytical and numerical groundwater modelling packages preferably with experience in the use of stochastic and probabilistic methods;
· Experience in a range of groundwater related modelling software packages, including mass transport modelling and automated model calibration (e.g. PEST);
· Familiarity with GIS packages, and geological modelling software;
· Programming and other support software such as, Python and MATLAB;
· Experience with project planning, including the ability to accurately estimate the time necessary to complete model build, calibration, and predictive simulations; and,
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
· Demonstrable understanding and experience in groundwater modelling and contaminant transport modelling;
· An ability to convert complex technical issues into practical and applied outcomes;
· Strong interpersonal skills, including good oral and written skills;
· Tertiary qualification in Engineering or geoscience;
· A Current "C Class " WA Drivers licence; and
· A strong commitment to safety and adherence to risk management systems.
It will also be beneficial if you have:
· Previous field experience, including hydraulic testing and design for applications such as dewatering, seepage mitigation, well field layout and optimisation, etc. will be highly regarded;
· Site based experience;
· Post graduate studies in Hydrogeology, or Environmental Engineering will be highly regarded.
