Group Manager Commercial Operations (Iron Ore)

Work Location: Perth

Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people

Roster: Monday – Friday (with regular overnight travel to site) – Flexible options considered 

Reporting into the Chief Operating Officer, the Group Manager Commercial Operations is a senior leader responsible for building and influencing strategic vision, driving business results and implementing change across a global company. Functional responsibility includes managing the Operations (Iron Ore) operating and capital expenditure.  

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop long-term commercial strategy, ensuring efficient deployment of capital and operating spend
  • Maximise value across the operations, ensuring commercial arrangements are leveraged and future facing.
  • Provide critical commercial insight to the operational leadership team enabling dynamic and considered strategic decisions
  • Ensure strategic plans consider local community commitments and commercial arrangements
  • Ensure the operations capital plans, strategic plans, operating plans, annual budgets and monthly forecasts are executed, aligned with business objectives
  • Ensuring accuracy and appropriateness of operating costs and contractor costs in accordance with budgets and forecasts.
  • Undertaking critical reviews of new business initiatives and special projects
  • Developing and contributing to Continuous Improvement initiatives
  • Direct, monitor and lead a number of operational commercial teams

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A tertiary degree in an accounting and/or mining related field
  • Post graduate qualifications are desirable
  • Strong management reporting background
  • Proven commercial experience in a similar role; preferably in resources or heavy industry
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence key stakeholders
  • A strong Continuous Improvement background
