Job Tasks and Responsibilities

As part of its diversification and ESG strategy, Yancoal is actively progressing potential renewable opportunities by utilising its existing assets and operations, particularly the Stratford pumped hydro and solar project.  The Stratford project is at feasibility stage and requires an experienced manager to manage the overall project and move it forward.  There are also other potential renewable projects at various study stages that need to be progressed.

  • Managing the Stratford project:
    • Manage various workstreams such as exploration drilling, technical and engineering, government approvals, financial/ commercial analysis to deliver the feasibility study in accordance with the project timeline. 
    • Work closely with various consultants and review and manage their deliverables and progress.
    • Beyond the feasibility study, progress the project to the execution stage.
    • Manage stakeholders from different parts of the company and keep senior management informed of progress. 
    • Develop strategies to optimise the outcome for the project whilst seeking to mitigate key risks
  • Other projects - Progress studies and identify prospective projects for development
  • Keep abreast of developments in the Australian energy market and different energy technologies (batteries, hydrogen, etc) and how best to position Yancoal

Networking within the industry (other project developers, government, funding agencies) for the benefit of Yancoal

Skills and Experience

To be successful in the role you will require the following skills & experience:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in relevant Engineering and/or Business discipline
  • Post graduate qualifications will be highly regarded

Skills & Experience:

  • Experience working within the energy or related industry at a mid to senior level (10+ years of experience).
  • Experience with managing large and complex mining/energy projects at different stages from feasibility study through to construction phase.
  • Experience with developing a renewable project from concept to operations covering various facets such as commercial, financial, approvals, technical and operational.
  • Understanding of the different types of renewables, their role in the National Electricity market and their investment characteristics.
  • Some understanding of the financial, technical and engineering aspects of a pumped hydro or similar project would be useful
  • Financial, engineering, and project management skills
