GENERAL MANAGER, RISK & ASSURANCE
Work Location: Fortescue Centre. Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people.
Roster: Monday to Friday
Reporting into the Chief Financial Officer, the Group Manager Risk & Assurance is a senior leader responsible for building and influencing strategic vision, driving business results and implementing change across a global company. Functional responsibility includes leadership over the Group’s risk and assurance systems, processes and reporting. The role is accountable for developing and promoting a high performing Risk and Assurance function to engage and create value in a global organisation.
As an inspiring and seasoned leader, you will work collaboratively to guide and facilitate change to deliver services which drive the kind of continuous improvement that supports growth and deliver shareholder returns. Your success will be based on setting and achieving stretch targets through innovation and empowering your team. The role works closely with all internal functions and external advisors and other key stakeholders. As a leader, you will play an important role to develop and foster Fortescue’s corporate culture and set high standards across group finance functions.

Key responsibilities include:
- Leadership & Performance - Leads by example, recruits and develops new and existing employees based on cultural fit and technical capability to ensure performance objectives and career development plans are met.
- Group Risk Management - Develop, maintain and effectively implement the FMG Risk Management and Compliance Frameworks across the group, ensuring mitigation of all material risks. Provide risk advisory services to the Chief Executive Officer, Senior Leadership team and Board (including committees) to ensure alignment of the FMG business plan with the Risk Management Framework and the Group’s risk appetite position.
- Group Audit & Assurance - Provide independent and objective evaluations of the organisation's financial and operational business activities, maintain an understanding of all FMG functions to ensure best audit practice is embedded, and lead the development and continuous improvement of the Group’s internal audit strategies and control frameworks. Create and implement FMG’s annual audit plan, ensuring significant risks across the business are successfully incorporated with the requirements and expectations of the Senior Leadership Team and Board.
- Insurance - Assess and make decisions on the Group’s under excess claims management portfolio, review and manage the Group’s annual general insurance renewal program, and report audit results and risk assessments to the senior leadership team and the board.
- Stakeholder Management - Build effective business partnering relationships with internal functions including Management, Audit, Finance, Operations and IT, and ensure effective alignment between the enterprise-wide risk management process and internal audit and compliance.
- Quality, Health, Safety, Environment & Community - Ensure full compliance with FMG’s quality, health, safety and environment policies and procedures throughout all aspects of the operations to embed a Zero Harm safety culture. Provide visible safety leadership, modelling positive safety behaviours to all staff, ensuring continued development of the hazard management program to reduce safety risks, raise hazard awareness with employees and contractors and efficiently investigate and manage all incidents.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Tertiary Qualifications in Business or a related discipline. Post Graduate qualifications in a related discipline is highly desirable
- Deep and demonstrated Risk and Compliance experience, with an ability to apply Risk and Compliance principles pragmatically and commercially, ideally within a Mining and Resources context (minimum 15+ years)
- Proven leadership experience at the Executive or General Management level within a similarly or larger sized company
- Highly developed and demonstrated people leadership and management skills, ideally with experience managing medium to large diverse teams of technical experts with multiple priorities
- Superior written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, influence stakeholders and positive impact culture
- Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to synthesise diverse views (from technical experts) and come to a win-win outcomes
- Is resourceful, promotes innovation and demonstrates resilience when faced with challenges
