Group Manager Sustainability

FFI is committed to ending climate change and is building a global renewable energy business. Sustainability is integral to all aspects of FFI and our ambitious global portfolio. For this, we are seeking a high-calibre Sustainability GM for the business.
Reporting to the Director of External Affairs, you will be accountable for delivering a global Sustainability Strategy for FFI - leading external engagement on sustainability-related matters, coordinating FFI’s Sustainability work program, shaping sustainability leadership across the company. You will work closely with Fortescue’s Sustainability team to maximise outcomes and efficiencies, interface with FFI in-country community teams, foster collaboration across the company, and build capability where needed. The Sustainability GM will also contribute on behalf of FFI to Fortescue’s Sustainability Committee and the Board’s Audit, Risk Management and Sustainability Committee.
This is a new role in FFI. You will therefore have the chance to build a program and make significantly valuable contributions to society and the effort to end climate change.
Key accountabilities will include:
- Coordinate cross-functional sustainability ‘clusters’ to ensure collaboration within FFI and with Fortescue on sustainability matters and activities
- Coordinate lender and other third-party sustainability compliance across the portfolio
- Monitor sustainability performance against company targets and leading practice and drive continuous improvement across FFI through support and guidance
- Lead FFI’s sustainability materiality assessments and input into sustainability-related risk assessments, and related reporting
- Establish and lead FFI’s Sustainability function
- Develop and lead the implementation of FFI’s sustainability strategy and annual work program
- Support the design, development and implementation of sustainability metrics, goals, business plans and reporting tools and work with key stakeholders to embed them in our business
- Develop and implement a global sustainability communications and engagement strategy.
- Work with the Investor Relations team and engage with investors, SRI groups and other stakeholders externally to build FFI’s sustainability credentials.
- Provide timely expert advice to the business including the Audit, Risk Management and Sustainability Committee, the Board and the Executive on sustainability matters, including on leading practice, emerging issues and benchmarking.
- Liaise with Fortescue, and relevant FFI teams, to deliver Sustainability Reporting, Modern Slavery Statements, and other required reports.
Qualifications and skills required:
- Minimum 15 years’ international sustainability experience, preferably within the energy or resources industries or similar
- Tertiary qualifications in sustainability or a related field
- Demonstrated experience working with lender sustainability frameworks (i.e., Equator Principles, IFC/World Bank Sustainability Framework)
- Strong knowledge of sustainability reporting frameworks (such as GRI), ESG indexes (i.e., DJSI) and other global sustainability frameworks (i.e., UNSDGs, TCFD, Equator Principles)
- Knowledge of sustainability-related requirements globally, including Modern Slavery.
- Demonstrated ability to think and act strategically, to identify and evaluate improvement opportunities and drive change.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability and confidence to communicate, across cultures, and with a variety of organization types.
- Demonstrated ability to think and act strategically, to identify and evaluate improvement opportunities and drive change.
- High level of passion for renewable energy and sustainability.
- Proven ability for credible and authentic engagement with strong interpersonal skills.
- High levels of self-motivation.
